Mayor Hugo Jimenez

Meet Hugo Jimenez, Mayor and a proud resident of Ridgefield. With an enduring love, he's been happily married to his beloved wife, Nancy, for an impressive 40 years, and together they've raised two wonderful daughters, Barbara and Daisy. Both daughters have gracefully passed through the Ridgefield school system, graduating from Ridgefield Memorial High School. Hugo and Nancy's family has grown to include three delightful grandchildren - the energetic Chris, the adorable Nicholas, and the precocious Mabel.

Hugo's journey took an extraordinary turn after high school when he joined the esteemed ranks of the US Navy, serving from 1981 to 1986. During his time in the Navy, he honed his skills through Hospital Corpsmen training and Medical Laboratory Technician courses, leaving an indelible mark on his life. His last duty station at the Naval Submarine Base in Groton, CT, further solidified his dedication to service.

Driven by his passion for knowledge and intellectual growth, Hugo has a Bachelor's of Science in Chemistry, a Master's of Science in Information Technology, . His relentless pursuit of excellence led him to various roles in several area hospitals, where he continues to excel as an IT Senior Project Manager. Additionally, he has been a dedicated adjunct professor at Bergen Community College, shaping young minds and inspiring the next generation.

Hugo's commitment to his community is nothing short of inspiring. He has been involved in numerous volunteer positions throughout Ridgefield, from coaching and serving as a Council member for the RBAO to being the Mayor's valuable liaison to the Light Rail project. His impressive dedication doesn't stop there; he also contributed as an alternate member to the Meadowlands Commission and proudly served as the former-President of the Ridgefield Democratic Club. His passion for community growth and development led him to influential positions on the Planning Board as Chairman and Council member. Furthermore, he remains actively involved in the American Legion Ridgefield Post #221, where he held esteemed positions as Service Officer, Adjutant, and Vice-Commander.

In January 2011, Hugo embarked on a new chapter in public service as a Councilman, an honor bestowed upon him by Senator Robert Menendez during his swearing-in ceremony. Since then, he has chaired both the Finance and Health Committees, while also contributing his expertise to the Police and Parks and Recreation Committee. His invaluable contributions extend to his service on the Fire and Ambulance, DPW, and Library committees as well. Under his guidance, the Finance committee has successfully stabilized tax rates after years of double-digit increases, proving that prudent financial management can coexist with maintaining essential town services.

January 7th, 2023, marked a momentous occasion as Hugo was sworn in for his fourth term as a dedicated Councilman, a testament to his unwavering commitment and the trust placed in him by the community he serves.

Hugo's remarkable journey reached new heights on March 22nd, 2023, when he assumed the role of Mayor following the resignation of former Mayor Anthony Suarez, who was confirmed as a judge in Bergen County Superior Court. Hugo was then elected in the general election in November 2023 to serve as Ridgefield's mayor from 2024-2027.

 

With this new responsibility, Hugo continues to lead his beloved Ridgefield with vision, integrity, and a deep-rooted passion for progress. In every aspect of his life, Hugo Jimenez exemplifies the true essence of a dedicated public servant and an outstanding pillar of the Ridgefield community. His unwavering commitment, leadership, and caring nature have touched the lives of many, leaving an indelible legacy of service and dedication.
