Councilman Yongki Colin Ryu
Colin has been a resident of Ridgefield for over 15 years with his wife, Mee Ok, who works as a senior designer. They have two children, Kenneth and Katherine, who have attended the Ridgefield school system.
He received a doctor of chiropractic degree and was awarded the International Presidential Scholarship. Upon completing his DC program, he entered Masters of Science in the Clinical Research Program and was awarded the K30 scholarship from the National Institutes of Health. He was the principal investigator to conduct several research studies. In addition, he is a 5th dan black belt in Kendo which is a modern martial art that improves mental and physical health.
Since living in Ridgefield, he has participated in multiple volunteer services, such as being a volunteer youth soccer coach, a member of the Ridgefield Recreation & Parks Commission, and a Ridgefield Board of Education Trustee. He enjoys teaching children in Ridgefield how to develop their bodies, minds, and discipline through sports and martial arts and is currently a head instructor at the Ridgefield Kendo Club.
On January 7th, 2023, Colin was sworn in as a Councilman following the resignation of former Councilman Ray Penabad and has been working as a member of multiple committees including Finance and Administration, Health and Welfare, Fire Department, Elections, and the Board of Education.
