Councilman James Kontolios
James (Dimitrios B.) Kontolios was born in Warren, Ohio. In 1978, his family moved to Ridgefield, New Jersey, where he became a homeowner with his sister in 1990. His mother, sisters, and many members of his extended family all live in Ridgefield. After graduating Ridgefield Memorial High School in 1985, he earned a BS in Electronics Engineering Technology from DeVry Institute of Technology, Chicago in 1989.
Mr. Kontolios is presently self-employed by his companies DBK Chian Enterprises and AccelComm. He uses his 25 years experience to provide his clients with a wide variety of Information Technology services and designing systems for the wireless telecommunications industry. James Kontolios previously held a US Government Confidential Security Clearance from 1991-1999 to work on classified designs in avionics for defense contractors.
In his first term as Councilman, Jimmy serves on the Communications (Chairman), Library (Chairman), Fire and Ambulance, Health, and Board of Education Committees. On the Finance Committee, his mission includes stabilizing taxes without compromising the high level of service for Ridgefield residents while improving our town’s infrastructure and continuing an environment that is favorable towards business. As Environmental Commission Liaison, he is vehemently advocating with Mayor Suarez and the Council to oppose the proposed North Bergen Power Plant, and coordinated with Ridgefield's Administator, DPW and Police Dept. to re-open our Nature Center. He is the Mayor's Alternate to the Bergen County League of Municipalities and 2nd Alternate to the Meadowlands Commission. Along with Councilman Hugo Jimenez, he is the co-Webmaster for Ridgefield.
James Kontolios’ altruism extends beyond volunteer work and fundraisers for the betterment of the Ridgefield Community; he organizes many cultural and charitable events for several organizations nationwide. Additionally, Kontolios has been instrumental in serving our community in several different capacities. He previously served as the Historian for the Borough. Jimmy pledges to continue Ridgefield’s excellent record of being ranked one of the safest and desirable places to live in New Jersey.
